Roach Exterminator

Roaches have been a detested pest throughout human history. As far back as the 4th century BC, playwright Aristophanes described them as foul-smelling in his play, "Peace." South Carolinians are very familiar with the big, bad, flying American Cockroach, which is appropriately nicknamed the Palmetto Bug, after our Palmetto State. We also find several other species in our area, including German and Smokybrown Cockroaches. They are in a never-ending search for food and water, and they are usually hiding inside our homes and businesses just outside of plain view.

Although we don't normally see them roaming around in open areas in the light, roaches move quickly and travel significant distances in search of food and water. Their skittish movements add to the uncomfortable feelings they invoke. When around residential and commercial buildings, they end up nesting around sewers, garbage cans, dumpsters, and places where many types of dangerous bacteria, viruses, and fungi can be found. When they crawl across our stored food and preparation surfaces, they can spread many illnesses, including salmonella, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever. They are also proven to contaminate drinking water. They leave behind shed skins and droppings that can cause severe allergic reactions, and a distinctive foul odor that acts as a constant reminder that they are around.

For businesses, the only reasonable plan for control is proactive prevention. The risk of damage to a public reputation because of roach sightings is immediate and may be impossible to repair. Even the most carefully cleaned business is in danger of roach infestation without professional pest control. When a business runs into regulatory issues because of a roach problem, it can expect expensive remediation requirements and possible forced closures.

The roaches' reputation as survivors against nature and human attempts to eliminate them is well documented. There is now scientific evidence showing how well-developed they are when it comes to adapting and surviving. Studies have shown that they behave as individuals and in groups by reacting to light and other threats to help them avoid insecticides and inefficient control methods. Experience has proven that ordinary cleaning and sanitation is not enough to prevent determined roaches.

Over the years, we have found that attempts at do-it-yourself pest control have made infestations worse rather than better. This is especially true with roaches, which are highly resistant to most retail pesticides. Proper and professional extermination requires a thorough inspection and exact species identification followed by using the right materials and methods. At Superior Pest Solutions, we assist with exclusionary control for roaches to help prevent future infestations and recommend regular follow-up inspections to be sure that the control methods used are effective.
